Acid Alkaline Diet Foods List

The basis of the acid alkaline diet is knowing which foods are highly alkaline, which foods are highly acidic but also knowing which foods are more neutral as well. Being able to distinguish these things allows for you to shop and eat a balanced diet that will lean more to the alkaline than the acidic but also gives you variety.

A general background knowledge of acid alakine foods and diet needs to be appreciated before we get into the nitty-gritty though.

Essentially most of the best and most alkaline foods are the rawest and least touched by humans. They also tend to be less sweet meaning that some fruits are more acidic than alkaline. While this is not a hard and fast rule it does mean that you can immediately spot acidic food if it has had too much tampering by human hands such as white bread and processed and packaged food.

My favorite alkaline foods are avocado, cucumbers, mixed unsalted nuts and eggplant while it is good to know that eggs, milk and chicken are only moderately acidic so can be eaten in small quantities.

What is the Acid Alkaline Diet?

With so many different fad diets, weight loss techniques and detoxification programs it might be easy to lump the acid alkaline detox diet into the same categories. However before you do that lets have a closer look and see what the acid alkaline diet is really all about and why you should perhaps take a second look.

The premise of this change in eating habits is that as a species humans have developed a body that is particularly attuned to certain types of foods. Since we existed for thousand upon thousands of years as nomadic hunter gatherers before we even thought of framing and civilization we evolved to react better to eating certain foods. Along came civilization though and we started to eat new things: More grains, more meat, more fish, sugar, salt, milk and many other products of civilization.

While we are unanimous that what we have created is great our bodies are not as adaptable as out minds and this new diet especially in the modern age has started to taker a toll. This is where we take a look at the underlying body chemistry that this diet effects.

According to research our body is designed to function at a slightly alkaline pH level. The foods we used to eat as humans kept it this way and we grew strong and healthy. Modern food is a different story however and instead of breaking down into alkaline parts it breaks down into acidic parts that changes our blood and body to a more acidic level.

While this is not fatal it does cause problems. Lack of energy, osteoporosis, lower immune system, insulin resistance, weight gain and many other ailments can be linked to an acidic diet.

Knowing this we can see the acid alkaline diet is a way to minimize the more harmful acidic foods we often consume and increase more natural alkaline foods to re balance your pH level to a more friendly state.
